Norton Café Racer made in the US

Since when did American builders turned their heads towards Norton Commandos? Not for long, but they do some of the best and most expensive Norton Commandos ($39,500 each) in the Colorado Norton Works located in the Rocky Mountains.
In an attempt to retain the original look and sound, the bike called Norton Café, uses an 865cc British parallel twin so it isn’t that American after all. The project is run by Matt Rambow who plans to built only 13 such motorcycles in batches of three until the summer of 2010.
Modern times call modern features so the engine is fuel injected and develops 60bhp, there is a pair of Brembo disc brakes, a CNC-machined cylinder head, 2-inch lowered suspensions, a hydraulic clutch, belt primary drive and hand made alloy body panels.
Bad news if you plan on buying one in the near future. Motorcycle enthusiast Richard Barks has already ordered the first of these Norton Café motorcycles made in the US.

Ducati Streetfighter S will be available in US by May

Ducati’s latest streetfighter model, a 155bhp and 114Nm motorcycle that was unveiled at the 2008 EICMA show in Milan is scheduled to hit US dealerships in May. The Italian naked style apparently starts to catch on to riders in America. We couldn’t be surprised as the Ducati Streetfighter S gets a new subframe, a redesigned cooling system that reduces width, fully digital instrumentation and 1098-derived features such as the 25.6 degree rake (24.5 degrees on the 1098), and the 35mm longer swingarm.
Also, units such as the 43mm Öhlins USD fork, fully adjustable Öhlins monoshock, five-spoke forged alloy Marchesini wheels couldn’t have missed from any high-spec Ducati and neither the Ducati Data Analysis system and Ducati Traction Control (DTC) which are aimed at harnessing the loads of horsepower and torque moving the 167 kg mass (dry).
In what Ducati is concerned, where there is an “S” model, a standard bike must be around somewhere and this case makes no exception. There is the Streetfighter S available either Red or Black painted, but featuring bronze-painted chassis and wheels and the standard Streetfighter available in Red and White and featuring black wheels or dark-grey wheels. The difference between the two bikes is also made by $4,000 as the Streetfighter S starts at $18,995 and the standard Streetfighter model starts at $14,995. This last is expected to be available in the US by August.

Julen Rondino’s A.3.W. Motiv Concept Bike

Julien Rondino is the mastermind behind the A3W Motiv, a three-wheeled concept motorcycle with no apparent purpose unless you give it a second thought. Featuring a 999cc KTM LC8 engine mounted on a steel/aluminum chassis, the bike has got the grunt and everything it takes to get the most benefits from it, including a hub centre steering, adjustable ergonomics as well as perimeter brakes.
So what’s with the third wheel? Most likely, this provides extra traction and also allows the concept bike to pass over all kinds of urban obstacles.

Kawasaki ER6-RR by Hoely

German tuners Hoely have recently put their hands on a Kawasaki ER-6n and transformed it into a faster, better looking and implicit more challenging bike that they call ER6-RR.
The engine now develops an impressive 98bhp – incomparable to the approximately 75bhp of the standard bike–thanks to a series of upgrades from which the gas-flowed head with an increased compression ratio of 13.8:1, balanced pistons, rods and crank, high-lift cams, advanced ignition, a modified airbox and a full Akrapovic system are the most important.
Chassis components have been borrowed from Kawasaki’s top supersport models so the bike features ZX-6R’s USD suspensions and ZX-10R’s radial brakes. Yet, the frame hasn’t been stiffen up so let’s just hope they did the math well and this will manage with the around 23bhp extra.
As the picture shows, this Kawi is built to perform on the track and we reckon that the parallel-twin engine is now capable to be put against any standard four-cylinder middleweight sports bike out there. Now that’s a great achievement to take in consideration!

Ducati Pantah revival?

Oberdan Bezzi, the man behind most Ducati renderings, has come up with the Ducati Pantah 696, a replica of the notorious sports bike produced between 1980 and 1986. Because the original bike was powered by a 90-degree V-twin engine, the designer visualizes the new Pantah as being powered by the 696 engine from the Monster.
As intended by Ducati when manufacturing the bike more than 20 years ago, the Pantah is a low cost sports motorcycle built in the Italian style. Being both accessible and ready to be ridden by all riders, the Ducati Pantah 696 presents major potential of reviving Fabio Taglioni’s idea.

KTM postpones Venom production

The Austrian manufacturer KTM announced that their Venom project has been put on hold for as long as it takes to make a success out of the RC8 superbike. A naked superbike, the Venom was first unveiled at the 2005 EICMA Show in Milan and was supposed to go into production as a 2009 model year. Thomas Kuttruf, Public Relations Manager at KTM, told MCN why this won’t happen so soon:
“The bike is standing in Kiska’s (Gerald Kiska, the man behind the design company responsible for the look of all KTMs) office, but is currently a no-go for production.
With the Venom project we had the idea to make a naked superbike, we still think this idea is worth following and the project is not stopped, but it is a bit on hold.
“The clear priority for us at the moment and the clear idea from the Stefan Pierer was to say ‘guys, before we have a naked superbike, we must have a successful real superbike.’

Koenigsegg CCR inspires Justin Togail to create ASUKA 02 Prototype Motorcycle

The Swedish super sports car, Koenigsegg CCR, has inspired designer Justin Togail into creating what appears to be the best candidate for the next Batmobile, the ASUKA 02 Prototype Motorcycle.
The style in which it opens up to unveil the engine parts and components is what the author mentions to have liked at the Koenigsegg, but while the four-wheeler is know to burn a lot of gas, this vehicle is supposed to be powerful, economic and green.
Actually, the engine and exhaust systems are designed to save as much as 90% of heat waste and transform it back into energy. Although our anticipative and innovative designer doesn’t mention how that’s even possible, we have to give him credit for the month of work that the engine and chassis only required.

One of Germany’s most notorious tuners, AC Schnitzer, recently finished work on the all-new BMW K1300R and– by what this picture reveals – they enhanced the model’s aggressive looks without neglecting performance either.
The upgrades consist in: lighter AC Schnitzer ACS forged alloy wheels, a Superbike bar conversion package, AC Schnitzer Stealth silencer with EC approval and removable DB Killer, high performance manifold, belly pan, cockpit and lamp trim as well as an AC Schnitzer pillion cover. Standard clutch and brake levers are replaced by AC’s more resistant and also adjustable units made of aeronautical aluminum.
AC Schnitzer hasn’t yet announced the price of the impressive transformation, but I don’t know why I have a hunch that you don’t really want to find that out, but simply look at the bike and be impressed by the transformation.

European fans of the Yamaha MT-01 are offered a 2009 limited edition version called SP in the manufacturer’s attempt to enhance the riding experience while also making the bike more attractive. So while the engine remains the same 1,670cc V-twin developing 90 horsepower at 4,750rpm and 150Nm of torque at 3,750rpm, the fork is now a fancy 43mm USD Öhlins unit and the rear shock an adjustable Öhlins one. These, together with the 17-inch wheels now featuring Pirelli Diablo Rosso tires – 120/70 front and 190/50 rear – are, according to Yamaha, supposed to offer ‘a more intense experience of ‘Kodo,’. Synthesizing, this means more heart beats per second.

Honda CBX Super Six

Honda has never even considered building a six-cylinder motorcycle engine to power their late 1970 CBX models, but owners have and this is the best they came up with. Apparently a regular 1979 Honda CBX, but actually being powered by a six-cylinder motor, this bike reflects the fact that manufacturers can fit an enormous engine on virtually any motorcycle and enjoy a great success. I’m counting the exhaust pipes on this thing over and over again and can’t believe how…regular it looks.

Concept Motorcycle that Harley-Davidson will never consider producing

It finally happened! Someone thought at combining the looks of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle with an electric motor and the result is definitely something that most fans of the American builder could enjoy as their future bad boy toy. But how does the name Harley-Davidson even stand next to words such as electric motor, green technology and so on? French designer Nicolas Petit is the man that made it possible and although the intention was to design the electric cruiser in the Milwaukee style, the first thing that prospects will ask for is the V-twin engine powering all present Harley-Davidson models and the only electric thing fitted on those is the starter. So that’s where the title comes from.
Called the Trunk, this concept bike is definitely appealing and the motor, which is enclosed in a rounded case, isn’t that bad either. The only problem is that the oddly named thing will never sound, vibrate and feel like a veritable Harley-Davidson motorcycle and that’s in contradiction with all that this manufacturer is all about.
Throughout history, Harley-Davidson proved it has the power adapt, but an electric motor will only power the company on its big cloud reserved in Heaven. Or is that just me?

Called MotoCzysz E1pc, the bike is an advanced project in work and will be present at the starting line of the TTXGP competition on 12 June this year.

MV Agusta hasn’t yet started to inspire their F4’s fairing on UFOs, but their users have and this is a very successful design that was spotted at the 2008 Asama Meeting in Japan.
The modifications are as pointless as they are obvious, but I believe that they do give a new meaning to the saying ‘razor sharp fairing’. Still, that guy looks like being pregnant with the gas tank = Not Cool!

High Concept: BMW HP2-800S

This is a very plausible concept that could enlarge BMW’s middleweight lineup in the future.
Based on the 800cc parallel-twin engine powering both models in the F800 range (the F800GS and F800R), the BMW HP2-800S was sketched by industrial designer Roberto Redaelli in strict accordance with BMW’s demands.
Apart from the 90bhp engine, the HP2 800S would use a lightweight aluminum frame and carbon-fiber bodywork. Overall weight is supposed to be of 385.8 pounds.
We have to admit that this concept looks very interesting and it stands honest chances to become reality given the fact that the most important aspects prior to production have been realistically thought at.

Crashed Triumph Tiger reveals excellent braking system

How could possibly a crashed motorcycle reveal to have benefited of excellent stopping power if it ended up pretty much redesigned by another traffic participant? Well, the whole point is that the rider of this Triumph Tiger did react in time to prevent a crash and the bike did performed just as supposed in such cases, but the car driver coming from behind either reacted too late or, just as happens in most cases, the vehicle’s brakes had simply too much weight to stop in the respective critic distance and boom…the rider gets tossed around by the force of the impact and messes up the mirrors on his way over the bike, but let’s hope he’s safe and sound.

TSS’s ZX-10R two-stroke alternative to liter bikes

The Two Stroke Shop name says everything about their object of activity, but what it forgets to mention is the fact that the Tropical North Queensland, Australia located shop may have shut the mouth of Japanese manufacturers that are so proud about the performance of their liter bikes.

By retaining the Japanese chassis and replacing the four-stroke engine with an in-house made two-stroke one developing 250 bhp and 160 ft lbs of torque, the company’s owner, Stephen Rothwell and partner as well as two-stroke engine designer for GP race teams, Wayne Wright, have raised the stake to an unimaginable level of performance, but of which they are totally aware.

Rothwell declared to motorcycledaily.com: "What the world needed was an answer to the current litre bikes, which we find anemic," "If a bike can’t hoist the wheel in 4th gear off the throttle then it’s not a superbike."

In a perfect world, that would have been minimum requirement…

While the first episode of Ducati’s Desmosedici RR documentary presented the processes of tuning, testing and then tuning again the MotoGP replica before calling it done and ready to hit whatever the future owner wants, the second episode slips on the technical details path, a delight for all engineer ears out there.

It seems that Ducati has worked so much at this project that they wouldn’t want the world to consider it “just another one of those fast bikes” and simply admit that they are built on the track so they provide the kind of material presented at official presentations.

2009 KTM 450/530 EXC

KTM’s unmistakably diversified off-road competition lineup brings the 450 EXC and 530 EXC motorcycles in our attention for being both track and trail machines and for offering the possibility to be taken on the roads too. They’ll never perform like dual-sports bikes and, most likely, they’ll go in the back of trucks if there are even 15-20 miles in between riding spots, but once there it will be nothing to stop these blasts.

The Austrian manufacturer simply had to profit of the light and nimble chassis and address to more than one category of riders with it and so two different and strikingly similar models ended up being produced. Displacement is really the only difference though.

Igor Chak’s 2015 Honda CB 750 Concept

Believe it or not, this here is actually a 2015 Honda CB 750 concept bike, a machine that shares nothing with the original one which, by the way, we consider much better. Designed by Igor Chak, the concept drifts away from the simple technology and elegant design, but we’d still have nothing against it if, apart from the on-board computer with multi-touch display and four-cylinder liquid hydrogen engine working with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, the bike would have looked less like a…brick.

The designer claims infinite electronically tuning possibilities for almost every single feature of the bike (front and rear suspension, drive mode etc) with sensors show readouts updating every 1/10 seconds even while on the way, but what’s the point of the massive bodywork? Wasn’t this thing supposed to be at least a naked bike?

Aprilia working on new adventure tourer

talian website”Infomotori” states that Aprilia is working on a new, high-capacity adventure tourer, which could make a first official entry at this year’s EICMA International Saloon in Milan. Apparently, the bike is already developed, at least enough to make it possible for it to be tested on the streets of Italy next to a KTM 990 Adventure and be spotted by the same motorcycle journalists.

These first images represent the attempt of design guru Luca Bar to retrace as much as possible the lines of the new model, which, unlike the Caponord, is supposed to do as well off the road as it does on it. The engine is supposed to be a 1,200 cc V-twin which is expected to power the future Shiver/Dorsoduro 1200 as well.

Because we know what state of mind this special edition 2009 Triumph Daytona 675 induces, we’ll resume to saying that only 350 examples will be sold in the US while Europe is sure to get a greater number as it has first been announced for sale on the old continent. Buell 1125R hits 148.7 mph on ice

Buell’s 1125R sportbike was acquainted for being fast, but not the fastest one out there. Meanwhile, things have changed as the 1125’s Rotax-built Helicon V-twin engine powered the bike to a precise speed of 148.7 mph. Ok, but that’s no record-breaking speed you might say and I couldn’t agree more. All that needs to be mentioned is that the respective speed was achieved on ice, which changes the situation completely.

Stunt rider Craig Jones got behind the handlebar of an 1125R equipped with studded tires and a shot of nitrous for the attempt that took place on Lake Dellen in Sweden. The lake ices only for a short period in mid winter but when it does it allows for these kinds of activities to take place on its surface. I just cannot see why other manufacturers don’t come up with such fairly unusual achievements.

In what concerns the Softail lineup, Harley-Davidson has an ace up its sleeve and it is called the Cross Bones. Part of the “Dark Custom” line, this model first stands out visually and brings impressive performance down the scene as soon as the reliable, massive and yet extremly refined V-twin motor is started. The bike envokes the old-school style although being still a relatively new addition to the American maker’s family, a model that shares no apparent feature with it’s siblings, but there’s got to be something.

Videos: Testing the Brammo TTR – it doesn’t get any better than this

rammo has been recently testing their TTR prototype which will be raced at the 2009 all-electric Isle of Man TTXGP and took the opportunity to shoot two teasing videos which not only show that the bike can be fast and look aggressive (note that it doesn’t get the final touches yet), but sound unbelievable good too. We’re simply amazed by the two rather fast passes and the sound that they’re accompanied by!

2009 KTM 150 SX

Ever wondered what a multiple number of J402-CA-702 Model 373 turbines would do to your average drag bike? Apparently, the 1,000 pounds of trust that each one of those delivers in order to normally power cruise missiles are enough to transform a day at the drag track into a world record setting date.

Achieving 200mph in 7.887 seconds, this thing is claimed to be the current record holder in its field.

Yellow Cab Scooter

You may paint a delivery scooter to look like a yellow cab, but you won’t manage to drift it away from its original purpose…carrying pizzas. No need to, especially if trying to remark yourself among the competition as the original New Yorkan style pizza shop.

This reminds me of a young man named Peter Parker who never managed to deliver those pizzas on time. He would have looked much better on this custom painted beauty.

High Concept: Lamborghini Caramelo V4 Superbike

Romanian designer Laurentiu Trifescu visualizes how a Lamborghini superbike could look like if the Italian supercar maker would ever consider producing one.

The name Caramelo comes, like in the case of most Lambo products, from a famous Spanish bull. This defeated a lion and a tiger in the Madrid arena in 1877. The animal’s courage and strength impressed the audience so much that they yelled for it to be spared and his name is remembered to this day.

Following the true Italian spirit, the Caramelo is supposed to be a superbike built on a tubular steel frame with single-sided swingarm and powered by a powerful 1000cc V4 engine. The design meets the edge style of the Murcielago and Gallardo and it is characterized by angular lines and cleaner surfaces.

The first Fischer MRX American Sportbike arrives to customer

Fischer, the American sportbike manufacturer, has started to deliver their MRX model, one that is powered by SV650’s V-twin engine. Featuring an aluminum chassis as well as top notch components such as USD forks and an Öhlins shock, the bike has a dry weight of only 367 lbs.

This unique combination is just right for the new owner of MRX #1, John from Minneapolis: "The engineering is great, the seat is very comfortable, the exhaust sounds really good, and the MRX turns heads wherever I go,"

Sounds like a success and a very good deal to me, as the MSRP starts at $7,995!

KTM offers Limited Champion’s Edition models to celebrate 160+ World Championship titles

Having won more than 160 World Championship titles over the past 35 years, KTM feels the need to celebrate with the launch of a limited Champion’s Edition motorcycle series that involves the new 250 XC-FW, 450 XC-W, 450 EXC and 530 EXC models.

Standing out thanks to a fresh, new and racy look, the bikes are greater performers than their 2009 model year siblings and will start being available on June 1 at KTM dealerships across the country.

They don’t mention how many units of each model will be made so we can’t figure how “limited” the bikes are so there might just be enough for everyone.

Ducati Desmosedici RR – third episode of the series

After the first and second episodes of the Desmosedici RR series, through which the Italian company Ducati gives a detailed lowdown on its most exclusive motorcycle by illustrating the conception and development of the Desmosedici RR project in the words of the key people behind it, providing a not-to-be-missed tribute to the most esoteric of the Bologna-made machines, it is now the turn of Paolo Neviani.

Technical director of RIBA Composites, company that is specialized in composite materials, his role is to explain and widely present the reason why carbon fiber is used to manufacture the Desmosedici RR tail.

Oberdan Bezzi Design: Triumph Hurricat 1700

Triumph barely finished launching their brand new 2009 Thunderbird 1600 model and designer guru Oberdan Bezzi has already come up with its own interpretation of the refined English custom. Powered by a larger displacement engine (1700cc), being fitted with superbike suspensions and wheels, while also featuring new aggressive design lines, the Italian designer’s concept drifts away from the original design and closer to that of the Star VMAX, which reminds us once again that this last has no potent contender to fear of. Imagine the chances for this concept to be even considered for production.

Kawasaki ZX-6R with TRAINING WHEELS!

The internet abounds with motorcycle riding guides, motorcycle riding tips as well as with advices for choosing the best motorcycle to start riding on, but some riders simply work with what they have and develop their own, more or less efficient, techniques for gaining those much needed skills.

Today, it’s all about maneuvering the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R at slow speed around the parking lot. Although it doesn’t sound dangerous (actually, it isn’t), most riders end up tipping their bikes over in the process so an innovative mind was needed. Apparently, the owner of this Kawi came with the oldest idea of them all – bolting on a pair of training wheels, which actually look genuine so I’m not asking where those came off from.

By looking at the rear tire, I can only be amazed by the fact that someone is actually riding that thing as such.

The amphibious motorcycle

Those of you who have long been thinking at a new and interesting way to spend the summer might just be inspired by this picture. This guy removed his motorcycle’s engine and transmission so that it would lose most of the weight and added a pair of swimmers along with the massive tires just so that he would be able to spend the summer riding those waves.

We can only suppose that the thing is still capable to move on solid ground too in order to meet both requirements of an amphibious.

Suzuki SuperKatana 1000 by Oberdan Bezzi

While the world expects the launch of a direct competitor for the Ducati Streetfighter, designer Oberdan Bezzi comes up with the naked version of the 2009 Suzuki GSX-R 1000, which looks like the appropriate thing for the job.

Also, the Suzuki SuperKatana 1000 stands as Japan’s response to the BMW K 1300 R, a model which together with the Ducati Streetfighter managed to slightly worry Japanese builders.

This is one great example of the American company’s ambition to sell production bikes that look and perform like having just rolled out from the custom shop.

BMW R1200RT by Fireexpress

Getting as fast as possible to the scene of a fire can sometimes prove as challenging as extinguishing the actual fire. That is when a Firexpress BMW R1200RT comes in handy simply because of the extremely reduced dimensions, compared to those of the fire brigade trucks.

Capable of carrying a modest (also compared to the big trucks) 13.2 gallons of water or foam, the system works by dispersing that quantity in microdroplets and so continues spraying for more than two minutes. The low-speed stream reaches as much as 15 feet while, fully loaded, the bike manages to achieve a top speed of 90 mph.

Several such BMWs are currently in use in Greece and the system is widely spread in the rest of Europe and in Asia, where it fits various big motorcycles and ATVs.

Green and Fast: BMW X bike of Jacobus Marx

This is the zero-emissions transportation vehicle that is supposed to offer the best green power-to-weight ratio in the near future. It is called the BMW X bike (althought the fact that it has three wheels qualifies it as a trike) and it was designed by Jacobus Marx, who’s inspiration came from BMW’s “efficient dynamic” theme (I guess we can supposed he’s at least fan of the German brand).

Electricity is the key to powering the X bike from zero to 60 in only 4 seconds and to a top speed of more than 150 mph. Two 80KW in-wheel electric motors with regenerative properties are supposed to be used and fed by ceramic batteries that recharge fast and weigh very little.

We must admit that this sound like a plausible concept and can’t help not being impressed by the interactive suspension that is sure to allow filtering through traffic with great ease.

Nowadays, it is very hard towards impossible to come up with brand new, 100 per cent original cruising/touring motorcycle and no manufacturer knows that better than Harley-Davidson. So we’re guessing that engineers and designers came up to the simple conclusion that their new project didn’t necessarily had to be a motorcycle, but something that would take the best of the motorcycle world and add enough carrying capacity to keep a couple on the highways all year round…something like a trike.

The 2009 Harley-Davidson Tri Glide Ultra Classic is the latest addition to the Touring family and addresses to the kind of rider that would have bought the two-wheeled version and turn it into his own. So is it legitimate to suppose that owners themselves inspired Harley on this one?

Drag scooter becomes world’s fastest!

Last month’s end brought TDR Scooters the world record for a single cylinder 178 cc fully automatic twist and go scooter, at the Santa Pod Raceway (England), with an impressive 11.9037 at 108.27 mph for a quarter of a mile. Also, during that lucky day on May 30, the record was followed by an 11.9760 at 105.73 mph.

MotoCzysz E1pc is ready for TTXGP

The MotoCzysz E1pc has been finalized, photographed and it is now ready for the TTXGP electric motorcycle race at Isle of Man. The pictures reveal the fact that only 6 of the 10 battery packs are exposed (3 on each side) and that the bike uses an iPhone for a dash.
The final step of the building process leaves us with an opened mouth and the Brammo TTR with shaking wheels. Also referred to as the D1gi1al Superbike, this is one electric bike that the world of racing has long expected, the journalists speculated about and which only needs to get on the track in order to prove that it means business. June 12th 2009 will be the day of truth
